Stephen Malkmus was the mastermind behind Pavement throughout the 90s, writing and performing some of the most unique and
brilliant music of the decade. He's now on his own, making indie rock tunes both similar and different to those that gave
Pavement their sound. Since 2001, Malkmus has released three solo albums playing with his backup band The Jicks. This self-titled
debut is debatably his best. While sharing the similar bouts of energy, loose melodies, wacky lyrics, and great hooks that
Pavement did, his music seems more polished this time around. As for the songs, a bunch of them are just as good as the stuff
he was writing during Pavement's existence. Malkmus still proves that he is still able to write awesome material. If you have
any interest in Pavement, you should definitely look into this one.
