Most people our age probably know Randy Newman best for his unforgettable Toy Story songs. You know it, don't be embarrassed. I know I always did. That is, until I came upon this album. Sail Away is an outstanding portfolio of Newman in his prime. Here, Newman finds his niche in writing simple piano oriented songs that are both comical and sincere. Several tracks are upbeat, lighthearted tunes composed of a piano and Newman's goofy vocals bouncing right along (e.g. "Simon Smith and the Amazing Dancing Bear"). There are also very serious tracks, where the added orchestrations can really hit you like few other musicians can ("He Gives Us All His Love"). Come on, take a risk and get past your Toy Story days to find a touching album by one of America's great musicians to come out of the 70s.
