Slanted & Enchanted was Pavement's debut album, and debatedly their greatest. Pavement is truly unlike anything else to come out of the 90s. Known as the "Kings of Indie Rock", their loose, lo-fi rock sound distinguished them from any other band out there. I remember how it took me a little while to get into this album. However, once you get acclimatized to their sound, it really is something to be treasured. Stephen Malkmus gives Pavement a unique personality with his eclectic lyrics and consistenly engaging song compositions. His slacker vocals give the sound another refreshing twist. Slanted & Enchanted is a primative yet innovative indie rock classic, and stands tall among the most important albums of the 90s.
