While LCD Soundsystem's self-titled debut certainly showed great potential for James Murphy and crew's future musical career,
no one thought that they would deliver such a flawless, towering LP as they have with their appropriately titled second effort
Sound of Silver. The opening track "Get Innocuous" lulls us in slowly with hypnotic beats and synths that gradually
crescendo and build. A couple of minutes in, we are soaked with a fully fleshed-out groove, which is eventually accompanied
by ominous, Eno-esque vocals. The album continues with a mix of intricately crafted electronica/rock endeavors, each one a
tremendously flavorful treat for the ears. One track that particularly stands out is "All My Friends" which builds
off a simple percussive, piano loop and eventually transforms into a powerful ode to youthful relationships. James Murphy's
songcraft has significantly developed since his band's eponymous debut, with each tune sounding both fresh and fantastic.
Sound of Silver is not only my album of 2007, but more importantly something that will be treasured by music lovers for generations
to come.
