| Chad Vangaalen is a singer/songwriter from Canada who spent three years in his bedroom creating his expansive debut album
Infiniheart. While listening to the album, it's obvious that Vangaalen put a lot of time into polishing up his songs as well
as he could with the equipment available to him (mostly his guitar, microphones, and a laptop). For the most part, he succeeds
in creating well-crafted indie rock with his delicate, Neil Young-ish lyrics. He makes things interesting by exploring some
tangents with the technology available to him, implementing some echoey sounds and periodic electronic beeps and bloops. However,
this album would have been a lot stronger if he had just taken out a few tracks. I feel like his more simplistic, acoustic
pieces are the best of the bunch, including the beautiful "After The Afterlife". When he is trying too hard to make
something that sounds a bit different, it doesn't always work. However, in the end, it really is suprising how solid the majority
of the album is, knowing that he made the whole thing with no help from any producers at all.
