Asked by Atlantic Records' label head Ahmet Ertegun to make an album "loaded with hits", the Velvet Underground did just that with their fourth and final LP release. Loaded is definitely the most approachable Velvet Underground album, full of polished, radio-friendly rock & roll songs. One of the most revolutionary aspects of the Velvet Underground had been how they deviated from the norm in their songwriting and wrote tunes about sex and drugs rather than of love that had been prevalent in rock up to that point. While Loaded tones down much of their previous lyrical risk, musically the album is just as impressive as any. Thanks to consistently great tracks, along with the help of a few classics ("Sweet Jane" and "Rock & Roll"), this Velvet Underground release is just as monumental as any. Lou Reed once again lends is great vocals and musical personality to a memorable batch of songs. The album winds down to "Oh! Sweet Nuthin'", a more than worthy closing track to an incredibly influential band's career.
