| The Velvet Undergound's third LP is like a beautiful recovery from the hangover that we got from the ferocious experimentation
of their first two LPs. While Velvet Underground & Nico and White Light/White Heat tested new musical ground unseen by
anyone at the time, Lou Reed uses this album is a much more delicate, self-reflective piece. The feel of the album is first
hinted at by the dreamy opener "Candy Says" that floats along through soft guitar plucking and Reed's sincere vocals.
However, there are still some songs that let us remember that VU is a rock band through and through. Tunes like "What
Goes On" and "Beginning To See the Light" help kick certain areas of the album into a higher gear. But it's
the more emotionally evocative songs that reveal that album's true elegance.
