Weezer's follow-up album to their debut success of Weezer (The Blue Album) was anything but a clone in structure and style. Pinkerton is a much looser, yet more heartfelt collection of alt-rock songs than their self-titled debut. The man behind Weezer's greatness is Rivers Cuomo. Cuomo has an undeniable talent in being able to form some of the greatest musical hooks in recent history. His song craft is consistently catchy and deserves repeated listenings. Every song on this album adheres to this fact strongly. Pinkerton has a much messier sound than Weezer's clean sounding debut, which gives the band a much different feel. This transition perfectly compliments the content of the songs, which is also a lot messier and less clear-cut. Though a much more subdued album than their debut, it would be a mistake to overlook this album.
