The Beastie Boys have always been celebrated for their ability to produce albums that are all able to explore new territory, and not simply be replicas in form. Check Your Head is a perfect example of this. Coming off the success of the critically acclaimed Paul's Boutique, the Beasties created an album here that was much more groove-oriented rather than beat and sample driven. Check Your Head really lets the Beastie Boys show off their musical talent with a collection of alt-rock, lo-fi tunes. This is the one Beastie Boys album where rap does not clearly take priority over the music. Tracks void of any lyrics like "Groove Holmes" and "Pow" give the Beasties some room to play their instruments. Of course, it wouldn't be a Beastie Boys album without some fantastic raps, and Check Your Head does not disappoint. This, in my opinion, ranks side-by-side with Paul's Boutique as the one of the Beasties' best.
