London Calling is a musical breakthrough in its ability to effectively mesh punk, rock & roll, reggae, new wave, rockabilly,
and other genres into one, gripping package. It's one of the most eclectic albums I have ever heard, with songs that range
from playful tunes ("Rudie Can't Fail", "Wrong 'Em Boyo"), to simple love songs ("Lovers Rock",
"Stand By Me"), to politically rebellious anthems ("London Calling", "The Guns of Brixton").
Joe Strummer's vocals perfectly emit the raw, street-level angst of the teen to 20-something Londoner at the time. Upon its
release, the album took the world by storm. To this day it stands as a model for inventiveness and creativity in rock &
roll music.
