Radio stations over the years have given Counting Crows the false image of being just another pop band trying to cash in on a hit or two an album. But in reality, this is a fantastic band that can not be understood only from radio hits. It's the songs that are not featured on radio stations that really allow listeners to understand the band's true identity. In their first two albums, there is so much great songwriting and musicianship present that many people have mistakenly overlooked. Recovering The Satellites is a fantastic follow-up to the band's masterpiece debut August and Everything After. In many ways, it's a much more heavy-hitting, rock album than the first. The band really lets loose with great energy and instrumental force on the majority of the tracks. Adam Duritz is the heart and soul of Counting Crows, and lends his tremendous vocals and lyrics to the sound of the band. His passion for his music is undeniable, found in such powerful pieces as "I'm Not Sleeping" and "Children In Bloom". I can't say enough about how important this album was for me during my transition from music listener to music fanatic. It's an album that I will continue to come back to for years to come.
