The Kings of Leon's sophomore effort Aha Shake Heartbreak is a respectable effort that comes very close to greatness, but doesn't quite make it. The band is actually comprised of 3 brothers and a cousin all sharing the same last name Followill. Their roots lie in Nashville, Tennessee, which is apparent in their southern rock feel exhibited in their songs. However, Caleb Followill's lackadaisical, seemingly Jamaican accented vocals and hints of NYC garage rock give the band a less traditional southern rock feel. Overall, there are great some tracks in here, but the band falters when they start to deviate from their signature sound and get themselves stuck in messy song craft ("Pistol of Fire"). In my opinion, the best tracks are the slower, more heartfelt pieces like "Day Old Blues" and "Rememo". Don't hesitate to give this one a listen.
