Throughout his youth, Ben Lee was viewed as a "boy genius". By the time he was 18, he had already put out an album with his band Noise Addict and two solo albums. While Ben Lee is barely known in the states, he's almost a musical god in Australia. Lee's third solo effort, Breathing Tornados, was released when he was 20, and reaffirmed his place in the hearts of many Australians and fans worldwide. I feel fortunate to have stumbled upon it, despite its popularity flourishing primarily on the other side of the world. Breathing Tornados is filled with hooky songwriting with well-implemented studio effects, complemented with Lee's sincere vocals. This alternative pop treasure is full of fantastic tunes, from the catchy intro track "Cigarettes Will Kill You", to the gentle, acoustic ballad "Birthday Song". Since its release, I have listened to Breathing Tornados countless times, and it will continue to hold a strong position in my music collection for years to come.
